On Sunday, June 14, a Greenville County deputy hit a moped in the rear and the rider was killed.
According to the state Highway Patrol, the accident happened near 3598 Poinsett Highway and Roe Ford Road. The deputy was 32 year old Harold Robinson and he was not injured in the crash.
It appears that the deputy was passing another vehicle when he hit the back of the moped being ridden by 47 year old Alan Craig Williams of Travelers Rest. Williams was not wearing a helmet and was thrown off the motorbike. He was declared dead at the scene.
The accident is currently under investigation by the Highway Patrol and the Sheriff’s Office is conducting its own internal investigation. In addition, activists are asking for total transparency in the investigation as it involves a Greenville County deputy. The victim’s family says they have heard nothing about the incident from the authorities and say they found his personal items at the scene of the incident some two days later.
The deputy involved has been placed on administrative duty until the investigations are complete.
