On Sunday night, August 9, a former Beaufort County sheriff was involved in a motorcycle accident.
According to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina Highway Patrol the accident happened at 7.30 p.m. on NC33 near the US17 on ramp.
John Jay Williams, aged 42 was driving a pickup truck west on NC 33. He then turned left to go to US17 and hit a motorcycle, being driven by 55 year old Robert Alan Jordan who was travelling eastbound on NC 33.
Robert Alan Jordan was formerly Sheriff Jordan who served as the Beaufort County Sheriff for 16 years up till last year.
Jordan was severely injured in the crash and was taken by air to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville where he was put into a medically induced coma. It appears that he also lost his leg in the accident.
Williams was uninjured and it is not yet clear who was at fault nor if either driver will face charges.
