On Tuesday evening, December 1, a teenager died in a three car accident.
According to authorities the accident happened shortly before 6 p.m. when a Suzuki SUV was traveling south of Rutherford Road and attempted to make a left turn onto Waddell Road in Greenville County. The driver did not yield right of way and hit a Chevy pickup which was traveling north on Rutherford and pushed the pickup into a Ford pickup stopped for traffic on Waddell Road.
The front passenger in the SUV, 14 year old Kirsten Renee Smith, of Taylors died in the crash. She was a freshman at Wade Hampton High School. The driver was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. The drivers of the Chevrolet and the Ford pickup were both uninjured.
The Greenville County School District will have additional counselors at the school today to help students.
The coroner’s office and the Highway Patrol are continuing to investigate the crash and so far no citations have been issued.
