What You Should Keep in Your Glove Box

Glove compartments are often used as handy places to store rubbish, old candy papers and receipts, however, it is worth using the glove box to store items which you might need in the event of an emergency.

As well as personal medical information and emergency numbers, along with a pen and paper, it is also worth having a flashlight, and cleaning items such as napkins, travel wipes and hand sanitizer. If you end up being hungry along the way, you will appreciate high energy snacks, especially if you get caught in a long hold up, or stranded in the snow.

A basic first aid kit can also be useful and make sure you follow the law by having proof of insurance there too. However the car registration should never be left in the glove box as that is exactly what car thieves would be hoping for.

What to Do Once You Have Passed Your Driving License

Once you have gained your driving license you are now allowed to join the millions of Americans who drive a vehicle every day. However, you may be feeling a little scared of driving alone and probably excited and nervous as well. it is important that as a new driver you take time to adjust and get used to driving alone.

You first need to make sure that you develop good driving habits to make you a safe driver, not only for your own safety but that of your passengers and other road users. Start by first making short trips and only in the daytime, as driving at night is more complicated given the reduced visibility. If you have to drive at night, try and make sure you do the trip in the day time first to make it easier on yourself.

If you want to take passengers, try first with a responsible adult, rather than a car full of friends so that they are less likely to distract you.

Always wear your seatbelt and insist your passengers wear theirs and never drink and drive or take drugs and drive.

Distracted Driving Responsible for More Accidents

The Office of Highway Safety and Justice Programs have issued a report showing that distracted driving is responsible for an increase in accidents on the Interstate 85 in South Carolina.

According to the report there have been 408 accidents on the Interstate so far this year which involved a vehicle which was stopped. Last year up to the same time, there were 314 accidents involving stopped vehicles which represent an increase of over 30% this year. According to the state Highway Patrol who work on the Interstate daily, the problem is not due to the fact that the vehicles are stopped but that the drivers behind them are too distracted, whether talking on the phone, or texting or changing a CD, and they do not see the stopped vehicle or the congestion ahead in time in order to avoid crashing into them.

Overall so far this year on the I 85 there have been 1,794 accidents resulting in ten deaths when last year there were only four deaths up to the same time.
